Found this website just a short while ago and found it rather humorous, and insightful. Some of these laws I knew existed, while some are new and surprising to me. Here is a list of dumb laws from Canada. Some seem to be from previous centuries that were just never fixed. You can then peruse the site for other dumb laws from the US and around the world. I like how all the ones from Canada fit on one page, while the ones from the US are sorted by state. :P

So in Canada, if you want to avoid the expense of buying a gun and bullets, you just have to commit a prisonable offense in Alberta and then request it on release? Mad!
Well being from the UK I can’t laugh as we still have some silly laws on the staute books such as in the city of Chester’s city walls it is legal to shoot a Welshman with a longbow after sunset (from 1403) and If you break a boiled egg at the wrong end you can be sentenced to 24 hours in the village stocks!

Most of these laws have been changed (some many years ago) and are no longer on the books. They once were. Also, these laws didn’t apply to all of Canada, but to some municipalities or provinces.

How is it ridiculous to have FRENCH sings in a FRENCH speaking NATION? And according to the “loi 101”, all sings, menus, etc, are supposed to be bilingual… Something that is not done anywhere else in the english part of Canada (except in the region of Ottawa).

They’ve changed the red light law, the margarine only applies to quebec, the horse and gun from prison is only 1 city in alberta,
the garage door regulations, as well as working on your car in the street only apply to Kanata. no pee zone is only guelph.
The quebec sign law states that they must be in French first, then in English, and this is being adapted for municipalities of Ontario as well to make everything billingual.
