Teen Gets Jail Time for Putting Grandma in Gangster Rap Video

2009, Feb 17th

West Palm Beach, FL — A Florida teenager was sentenced to 18 months in juvenile detention after pleading guilty to elder abuse charges for coaxing his senile grandmother into a “gangster rap” video.

Michael Alfinez, age 18, made no comments in entering the guilty plea Tuesday. His family has said the case was blown out of proportion.

Alfinez’s 85-year-old grandmother can be seen in the video holding a handgun, wearing a black mask and threatening to shoot “all the pigs.”

Alfinez was arrested in April after authorities seized the tape in a routine traffic stop, which also included footage of him and others shooting a pistol around town.

Alfinez also pleaded guilty to charges of firing out of a moving vehicle and into a building.

Topless Britney Spears Thanks Fans

2007, May 19th

New York – A topless Britney Spears has posted a new message on her Web site to thank her fans for their prayers “during this trying time.”

Alongside a photograph of herself in a blonde wig, posed topless with white-gloved arms crossed over her chest, the pop singer said she was “blessed” to be so cared about.

“The reason for this letter is to let everyone know that their prayers have helped me,” Spears wrote.

“I am so blessed that you care enough about me to be concerned and will continue to live in this brighter state with all of you by my side during this trying time.

“We are all lights of the world and we all need to continuously inspire others and look to the higher power. You are all in my prayers. Godspeed. Love Britney.”

Spears’ professional achievements have been overshadowed by her personal crises in the past year.

The pop singer split up from her second husband, aspiring rapper Kevin Federline, with whom she has two children, and entered rehab for undisclosed problems after a spree of high-profile partying and erratic behaviour such as shaving off her hair.

Spears, 25, has not released an album since 2003.

But she is now trying to stage a comeback, performing for the first time in more than three years this month with a series of 15-minute shows at various nightclubs.

She is reportedly recording her fifth album, which she started working on last year with red-hot hitmakers like R&B singer Ne-Yo and Swedish producer Max Martin.

It’s Predictable — We’re All Copycats

2007, Apr 3rd

New York – Think you’re a trendsetter? Chances are, you’re actually just another copycat.

A team of researchers in the United States and Britain have found that what’s in and what’s out changes at a predictably consistent rate and most people are simply copycats when it comes to popular culture.

“People like to think they’re innovative or looking for the hot new thing,” said Dr. Carl Lipo of California State University, Long Beach.

“In fact, the effect is, they’re just choosing based on the frequency of possibilities they encounter,” the co-author of the study added in an interview.

Weird Al Yankovic music videos

2007, Mar 13th

Was perusing the YouTube once again yesterday and stumpled upon a Weird Al video. I find this man’s videos quite humorous so I figured I’d share a few of them with you. He does mostly parodies of other artists songs, but he does come up with a few creative songs of his own. If you feel the need for a good laugh, take a look.

Gump, Amish Paradise, Bedrock Anthem, Jurassic Park, The Saga Begins, Fat, Smells Like Nirvana, It’s All About The Pentiums, Money For Nothing, Headline News, I’ll Sue Ya

And, as an added bonus, the Celebrity Deathmatch between Weird Al and Al Gore.
